We’re devastated to share that our beloved copper beech tree will be dismantled in October half term, due to an unmanageable infection of Meripilus (giant polypore).
We have all enjoyed its bountiful source of beauty, shade and colour, and it is hard to believe that the tree is so diseased, given its abundant appearance. However, the fungus has very aggressively compromised the structure of the tree and despite efforts over the past few years to bring the disease under control, we have been advised that felling is now the only option.
On 18th and 19th October, pens will be available for our community to write messages and draw pictures on the tree in one last bid farewell.
The felling of the tree will take place w/c 20th October during the hours of 8am and 4pm, and will take four days. The café will still remain open during these days and signage will be in place to ensure safe access to the club and café.
