Ray Betts is a local graphic designer and photographer whose work explores landscapes through the unseen world of infrared light. Invisible to the human eye, infrared (IR) light reveals a striking alternative reality when captured with specially adapted cameras—transforming familiar scenes into surreal, high-contrast, dreamlike visions where foliage glows white and skies deepen into velvety black. Infrared photography heightens mood and texture, lending particular power to landscapes and architectural forms.
With many years of professional graphic design experience in both the UK and the US, Ray’s visual sensibility is rooted in a strong understanding of composition and tone. His interest in photography began while studying at art college in Kent and has since evolved alongside his career in design. The works presented at the Copper Beech Café have been selected from travels abroad as well as local sights in Dulwich—each image offering a re-imagined perspective on place, light, and atmosphere.
